Area Overview
Within the London Borough of Islington, between Highgate N6, Crouch End N8 and Archway N19, the Whitehall Park Conservation Area is a leafy, hilly neighbourhood boasting a variety of architectural styles. Elegant and impressive red brick 19th century Victorian terraces, a number with Gothic like turrets, rub shoulders with less elaborate yet equally sought after character properties of the same era. At the most northern point of this enclave influences of the 1920\'s are represented in Fitzwarren Gardens. Aside from the convenience of its location, a number of fortunate property owners enjoy fantastic views of London\'s distinctive skyline and beyond. On the lower slopes the roads take their names from characters created by The Great Bard; Cressida, Miranda, Lysander, Parolles and Prospero are collectively referred to as the Shakespeare\'s.
What is a Conservation Area?
A conservation area is a defined area of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance. As such certain guidelines exist on such matters as land use, demolition, roof extensions, rear extensions, railings and boundary walls, front and basement areas, trees, paving, street furniture and advertisement hoardings.
